Meet the Chef: Sarah’s Nyonya Kitchen
Third-generation cook Sarah Tan on rempah, memory and cooking the food of her grandmother.
Sarah Tan learned to cook standing on a stool beside her grandmother in Katong, pounding rempah until her arms ached. Today she shares that food through Potluck.
On tradition
“You cannot rush buah keluak,” she says. “The nuts soak for days. The flavour is the reward for patience.”
On sharing
For Sarah, hosting strangers feels natural. “When people eat my food, they’re eating my family’s history. That’s a privilege to give.”
You can book a seat at Sarah’s table through her Potluck profile.
